Darkness falls across the land. The midnight hour is close at hand. Creatures crawl in search of blood. To terrorize your neighbourhood. And whosoever shall be found. Without the soul for getting down. Must stand and face the hounds of hell. And rot inside a corpse's shell. Or alternatively, why don't you check out the following interview I did with my two horror pals, DJ and Tara? Go on. It might be fun.
1) What are your own origins, DJ and Tara? Plus what paths did you take in life prior to getting to where you are today? Tara was born in Illinois and I was born in Maryland. Yet we both grew up in New Jersey together.
Four years ago we moved to Austin, Texas, because the weather is better for our mom who has breathing problems.
We have both loved horror movies for as long as we can remember. We fell for 'Night of the Living Dead' when we were very young, even going as far as to make our own zombie movie with our cousins when I was 5 and Tara was 8. Our mom was always cool so we got to stay up late and watch horror movies.

'USA Up All Night' and 'Monstervision on TNT' became staples of our childhood where we were introduced to many classics and great B movies. When we grew up we started going to our local video store almost all weekends to rent as many horror movies as we could. Anyone who used to rent movies knows it's an experience to just go to blockbuster or a mom-and-pop-shop and pick out movies, we miss that.
We actually started a friendship with our Blockbuster guy and he introduced us to horror conventions where we ended up becoming show volunteers for 8 cons. Meeting stars and film makers only increased our love of the genre.
2) How did ‘Blood Red Reviews’ come about? Plus what are your roles within the scheme of things? We have been reviewing horror movies for fun for years and finally decided to share our opinions with the world. Tara handles the book and binder system we have where we keep hard copies of all our reviews. I run the website / twitter / facebook end of things and we both post reviews.
3) Off the top of your head, Tara, what would you say were the top five horror movies of all time? Tara's top 5 horror movies are Zombieland, Shaun of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, 28 Days Later, and Friday the 13th part 6. Tara really loves zombie movies in case that isn't clear. Lol!
4) Same question to you, DJ, plus least favorite movies as well. My top 5 are Hellraiser, Return of the Living Dead, Hatchet, Friday the 13th part 6, and Night of the Creeps. We agreed on our least favorite horror movies, and they are Texas Chainsaw 2, Blair Witch Project, Pontypool, Repo: The Genetic Opera, and Paranormal Activity.
5) What song would you say best represents this site and why? Our signature song might be cliche but we love Michael Jackson so its 'Thriller'!
6) If you could get a celebrity – either living or dead – to promote your site, who would you choose, and why would you want to choose this particular person? We are going to cheat and say two: Robert Englund and George Romero because we met them and they are super nice and it's really difficult to think of two bigger icons in the horror world. Plus George loved my sisters ladybug tattoo so she named it after him.
7) What have you learnt about yourselves through this endeavour? And were their any unforeseen obstacles you had to contend with along the way? We've learned that I'm overzealous and Tara is a procrastinator. Ha! Seriously though, she doesn't post as much as she should. Also, I am horrible at punctuation, but we both truly love the genre.
8) If ‘Blood Red’ had a motto, what would it be? Our motto is "There's no such thing as too many boob shots!" :)
