LIVE LOVE - FINDING LOVE WITH A CAMGIRL

Whenever you're watching television, or browsing the internet, and, you know, you accidentally click on a link which depicts a... ahum... live show, what do you normally, pardon the expression, feel? Happy to see a pretty face staring back at you? Sad to see a pretty face staring back at you? Or how about, intrigued to see what's behind said pretty face? Like my mate Robert was, when he made his film, 'Live Love'.





1) What are your own origins, Robert?   It's a little tricky to say, yet my film origins started much later then my pre-film life. For most of my life I was an athlete, and the only involvement I had with 'the arts' was in my 8th grade musical where I somehow managed to stumble upon the lead role. Baseball was my first love, and something I always saw myself pursuing, until I suffered an injury before my senior year (High School) season which eliminated any possibility of playing in college. From there I was sort of doing nothing, attending community college, taking liberal arts courses, until I 'found film'. It started with making music videos with, literally, $0 budgets and editing in iMovie and progressed from there. After shooting music videos, freelance, for about a year, I decided to make a move and attended the School of Visual Arts to pursue film as a career.

2) What inspired you to create the ‘Live Love’ feature film?   There was never really one moment where I had the idea and thought, "this is it". It was something I'd been thinking about for a while before I started writing the script, which was last November. When thinking about the story I focused on this stigma that CamGirls have, that they are basically prostitutes, that it's an easy job, that anyone who is good looking could do it, all of which I could tell you personally after speaking to several CamGirls, are completely untrue. But the fact that these stigmas exist, and that the majority of people out there feel this way, gave me my conflict and it all rolled from there.

3) In your own words how would you describe this flick?   To put it simply, it's a Modern Day Romance. Right now it seems more like a film that's touching on a controversial subject, but hopefully, 10 years from now, when CamGirls are more common place, it will just be a romance story about our time.

4) What song would you say best represents this movie and why?   That's probably the hardest question I've been asked on any interview yet! And I don't know if I have an answer for it right now! I could tell you that in the first couple of months I was writing the film, I was listening to a lot of softer rock, like Ed Sheeran and Saint Raymond. But recently I've been feeling nostalgic and listening to REO SpeedWagon, classics. I'm sure there was a good amount of hip hop throughout, yet it's hard for me to write while listening to rap because I focus on the lyrics too often. I find it's best to listen to something that you could drift away and let your mind wonder while you write.

5) If you could get a celebrity – either living or dead – to promote your wares, who would you choose, and why would you want to choose this particular person?   I have an endless amount of respect for both Kevin Smith and Richard Linklater. Besides the personal excitement I'd have if either of them promoted the film, I think both of their fan-bases would thoroughly enjoy this movie. I could honestly say Chasing Amy and the Before Trilogy were huge influences on the story and hope anyone who enjoys those films will give Live Love a shot.

6) During your time in this field, what is the one thing that has kept you in good stead?   My friends, the few that I still speak to frequently, are my support team. I spend a lot of my time working, and have been in this "mode" for the last 4 years or so... and you start to go crazy. I watched an interview with the great Mac Miller once and he said something along the lines of, "If I'm the hardest working person I know, there's no way I could fail", and that's something I take very seriously. Between my friends support and my personal determination to be successful in this industry, I'm able to keep a somewhat sane mind state.

7) If ‘Live Love’ had a motto, what would it be?   If we're going with a classic sort of motto you could say it's along the lines of, "Don't judge a book by it's cover". But if you want to get specific we could say, "Don't judge a book because she takes off her clothes online".
