THANKSGIVING FOR THE MEMORIES

Even though Thanksgiving isn't celebrated globally, it has to be said, Happy Thanksgiving Everyone, as I hope you use this great time of year to reflect on all those things we should be thankful for. Things like our immediate family, our close friends, our pets, our health, and lets not forget our ancestry. I mean, I haven't heard anybody be thankful for them, have you? Because if you think about it, they're the ones that came before us, starting off our lineage all those many-many years ago.





Now I know what you're thinking. You're thinking what the hell does this have to do with your normal cosplay blog, Jenna Say Blog? Well, my friends, the reason why I was thinking about being thankful for our ancestry is because I had a single week to learn leatherwork, and make a huge under bust belt for Lagertha Lothbrok from the TV show, Vikings.

You see, My father's family were pelters, and I assume if they worked with pelts they must have worked with leather as well. So there I was, hand stamping my belt, and all I could think about was “Wow. This is what my ancestors once did. They were crazy talented!”. That led me to think about why we're always thankful for things and people that are in our lives now, but tend to forget the people from the past.

The past is tricky. Sometimes we want to kick ourselves in the bum for things we did in the past, but we are forced to move forward. But if it wasn't for the past we wouldn't be who we are today. Same goes for our ancestors. Our mom molded us, grandma molded her, and great grandma molded her, and so on, and so on. Our personalities, our life hacks, our hobbies, they are all molded by our ancestors. Now my ancestors would never have jumped into a Cradle of Filth mosh-pit like I have, yet I have collected hobbies based off watching older relatives or hearing stories of things they once did. And honestly, I do enjoy adding them to my cosplays whenever I get the chance.

My father's mother was the best knitter I had ever laid eyes on. In all my nine years of knitting I can’t get to her level, and I still have blankets she made all those years ago. Her mother, on the other hand, crocheted with one arm. Yes... one arm. My great grandfather whittled her a new arm out of wood (that she always had an opera glove on), and she would stick the hook in her wooden hand and used her other to crochet. I never had the opportunity to watch this, but I really wish I would have. I picked up crochet a few years back thinking that it paid a tiny homage to her. 

So remember, be thankful for your cosplay, your comics, your friends, and family. But don't forget to thank your ancestors too! Think of paying some sort of homage to them. Because without them, you wouldn't have been here at all!
