FUN FACTS EVERYBODY NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT STAR TREK

Space. The final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life, new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before! More importantly than that, though, our crew, our mission, and our intent in life, is to impart onto you the following facts provided for us by Morph Suits.

My-oh-my, wasn't that a great infographic, dear reader? After looking at it I have half a mind of slapping a Klingon in their Waff-Tar. As for the other half of my mind, well, how about some more facts? 

1) Wagon Train A-Coming: When Gene Roddenberry first pitched the idea of Star Trek to the TV executives at CBS, he described it as, 'A Wagon Train to the Stars'. One of the main reasons for him doing this is because he was a huge fan of cowboy movies.

2) Ear Today, Spock Tomorrow: Originally the U.S. Censors rejected the character of Doctor Spock because he was seen as some sort of satanic figure, what with his pointed ears and his slanted eyebrows. 

3) Man, Kiss That Woman: Captain Kirk and Lieutenant Uhura were the first two people to perform the first-ever televised inter-racial kiss. Surprisingly enough, fan reaction wasn't entirely negative. Some people praised it and one even sent a letter saying: "I am totally opposed to the mixing of the races. However, any time a red-blooded American boy like Captain Kirk gets a beautiful dame in his arms that looks like Uhura, he ain't gonna fight it".

4) I Have A Dream: While I'm on the topic of Lieutenant Uhura, Nichelle Nichols, who played her on the show, was talked out of resigning from it by a fan. This happened just after the first season aired, and the fans name was Martin Luther King, Jr.

5) Not So Special FX: The transporter filter effect created for the original series was done by filming stirred glitter through a container of water, then overlaying that image on the celluloid during post production. On a similar note, the sound of the Enterprise doors opening from the 2009 reboot, Star Trek, came from the sound you get when flushing a toilet on a Russian train.

6) War Of The Welles: The legendary actor, director, and radio star, Orson Welles, narrated the trailer for the 1979 blockbuster, Star Trek: The Motion Picture. As most of us know, Orson's first claim to fame was to scare half of America witless with his radio rendition of the H.G. Wells sci-fi classic, 'War of the Worlds'. 

7) Cereal Or Serial: The Guinness Book of Records, 2000 edition, have stated that Star Trek created the largest number of spin-off series, derived from a singular TV franchise. 

8) Presidential Alien: In 1991 ex-President Ronald Reagan visited the set of the TV show, Star Trek: The Next Generation, whilst they were making the episode called “Redemption”. 'I like those Klingons', he remarked to one member of the cast, 'They remind me of Congress'.

9) The Buff of Khan: All of Khan's men seen in the 1982 sequel, Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan, were actually members of the all-male striptease troupe, The Chippendales.

10) Glue You: Zachary Quinto had some difficulty performing the Vulcan hand salute whilst making the 2009 Star Trek movie. So much so in fact, JJ Abrams had to physically glue his fingers together in order for him to do it correctly.
