GET YOUR GHOULIES OUT FOR HORROR-ON-SEA, 2018

Get ready, horror fans, because Southend's most freaky film festival is going to darken our doorsteps once again. Covering six whole days, over the latter half of January, 2018, the Horror-On-Sea Film Festival will continue to celebrate the genre in all of its gory glory, doing so by giving up-and-coming writers, directors, producers, and actors, a relevant platform to showcase their work to a knowledgeable and enthusiastic audience.





Trust me; it has helped launch many new careers. Just ask Darren Kent, who's currently starring in the hit Syfy grindhouse TV series, Blood Drive. In an interview he gave to the press, Darren said: 'I know how hard it is to make a movie and get it recognized, and it's a real shame that a lot of horror movies never get seen now because the genre is just so huge. Horror-On-Sea is unique, in that it shines a spotlight on up-and-coming film-makers and actors, like myself, by bringing our work to the wider attention of the industry. I strongly support what it stands for and am extremely pleased it's back... and on my doorstep!'.

Horror-On-Sea normally receives submissions from all across the world, ranging from America, Europe, India, and even Brazil, and exhibits at least 30 feature films and 40 shorts. Tickets are currently on sale, and once again it will be held at the Park Inn by Radisson Palace Hotel, located on Southend’s iconic seafront. This lavish venue will also host a series of world premieres, special appearances, and talks from the leading lights in the horror movie industry.

The festival was first spawned in 2013 by a local film aficionado named Paul Cotgrove. In order to promote this year's event, Paul told a journalist: 'The key to making a great horror movie is to have a blend of humour, atmosphere, and suspense, then as the film progresses, it should give you goosebumps on top of your goosebumps, while allowing you to relieve the heart-pumping tension with a real belly laugh. In those respects, I think many of the films we have this year absolutely nailed it'.  

Acting as the festival’s director, Paul has managed to put together a broad programme that covers many of the classic sub genres, such as Killer, Monster, and Paranormal, alongside some of the more usual fair, like Slasher, Grindhouse, and Gothic. When: The festival runs over the last two consecutive three day weekends in January, 2018, starting from Friday the 19th, Saturday the 20th, and Sunday the 21st, and then winds down on Friday the 26th, Saturday the 27th, and Sunday the 28th.   

How Much: Prices start at just £6 per film, £20 for a Day Pass, and £60 to £40 for a Weekend Pass (£60 for the first weekend, and £40 for the second).  Advanced tickets can be bought online via eventbrite.co.uk.
