RAISE YOUR SPORRAN FOR THE 14TH ANNUAL GLASGOW FILM FESTIVAL

From the 21st of February, 2018, to the 4th of March, the Glasgow Film Festival will be holding its fourteenth annual celebration. Based at the prestigious Glasgow Film Theater, Scotland, this event is easy to get to and reasonably priced, plus it also offers you the opportunity to see your favorite celebrities, movies, and any other up-and-coming attraction.





Within recent years some of the notable guests who've been in attendance include Richard Gere, Alan Rickman, Joss Whedon, Terry Gilliam, John C Reilly, Richard Ayoade, Dexter Fletcher, Richard Dreyfuss, and Peter Capaldi, to name but a few, plus in 2017 the red carpet treatment was given to the world premiere of David Tennant’s British melodrama, 'Mad To Be Normal', which logged over 41,000 admissions, and cemented the festivals reputation as one of Europe’s major film festivals.

The full programme for this year's event has been launched on the 24th of January, with tickets going on sale not so long thereafter, ranging from £5 upwards, depending on if you're a member or not (click here to read more about that). A SPOTLIGHT ON FILMMAKERS ORIGINATING FROM IRELAND:   First off there's the Scottish premiere of Nora Twomey’s hotly anticipated animated adventure, 'The Breadwinner', which is about a headstrong young girl living in Afghanistan under the Taliban. Then there's the UK premiere of Aoife McArdle’s debut film, 'Kissing Candice', which is a striking coming-of-age tale starring Ann Skelly, best known for her role on the TV show, Red Rock. While other highlights include Frank Berry’s award-winning look at teenage life behind bars, 'Michael Inside', as well as the Scottish premiere of David Freyne’s new twist on the zombie movie, 'The Cured', featuring Ellen Page.

PURE BALTIC:   In this section of the festival there will be a number of UK premieres focused on our friends from Eastern Europe. This includes Jaak Kilmi's upbeat comedy about three teenage Estonian boys who flee to Sweden in the 1980s,  named, 'The Dissidents'; Aik Karapetian’s Latvian psychological thriller, 'Firstborn'; plus there's also a dry, funny, political critique on post-Communist Lithuania, directed by Egle Vertelyte called 'Miracle'.

MORNING MATINEE:   Glasgow Film Festivals much-loved morning matinees will be returning with a season dedicated to Hollywood’s broodiest anti-heroes. Under the banner of 'Rebel Heroes', some of the films featured include 'Rebel Without A Cause' (starring James Dean); 'The Defiant Ones' (starring Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier); 'Bullitt' (starring Steve McQueen); and 'Jailhouse Rock' (starring the King himself, Elvis Presley).

PLUS SO MUCH MORE:   Some of the other activities soon to be announced include the return of the hugely popular special event screenings, a 80s verses 90s styled school disco, as well as a live performance by electronic pioneers, Wrangler, featuring ex-Cabaret Voltaire, Stephen Mallinder.
