Kylo Ren was first introduced to the Star Wars Universe in the 2015 film, "The Force Awakens", and since then, he’s become a fan favorite due to his iconic lightsaber, his jazzy helmet, as well as his direct connection to some of the characters who featured in the original trilogy. But if truth be told, there are certain things about Kylo’s backstory that still remain a mystery. So here are four facts about him that you may not know...
1) Portrayed by Adam Driver
Before donning the guise of Kylo Ren, Adam Driver was probably best known for his supporting role in the HBO series, "Girls", in which he received three Emmy nominations for portraying the broody, tortured artist, Adam Sackler. He’s also starred in a number of major movies as well, including "Silence" (2016), "BlacKkKlansman" (2018), and "Marriage Story" (2019), along with being a talented stage actor, having been nominated for a Tony Award for his role in "Burn This."

2) Born as Ben Solo
Now, depending on your perspective, I'd say Kylo Ren is many different things to many different people. To Han Solo, he’s his son and his slayer. To General Leia Organa, he’s her little boy and her major adversary. And to Luke Skywalker, he’s his nephew and his most promising Jedi apprentice, until he was seduced to the dark side of the Force by Supreme Leader Snoke. But more importantly than that, dear reader, Kylo Ren is also the grandson of Darth Vader, otherwise known as Anakin Skywalker, and he possesses a desire to complete his grandfather's work by any means necessary (Or does he?).
3) Not a Sith
Many fans initially presumed that Kylo Ren was the latest in a long line of Sith Lords. But no, no he’s not, because Kylo is actually the Master of the Knights of Ren, who emerged as the next generation of Force-sensitive Warriors prior to Kylo killing Luke's new Jedi Order. Kylo then went on to become a Warlord for the First Order and a disciple of Supreme Leader Snoke (another powerful dark side Force user who isn't a Sith. Not directly, anyway).

4) He Built His Unique Lightsaber
Kylo Ren's lightsaber was constructed around 34 ABY (after the Battle of Yavin), and boasts a striking crossguard design that’s based on an ancient saber dating back to the Great Scourge of Malachor. Both the crossbars and the corrupted appearance of the blade are a result of Kylo having constructed the saber with cracked Kyber crystals. The extra heat generated by the unstable crystals required the construction of the side vents that the crossbars emerge from.
