Discovering real-life film locations has become increasingly popular over the years because it's generally seen as a fun activity that allows people to figure out how some movies are actually made. In fact, it has become so popular, that my mates over at Jurys Inn (the well-known hoteliers) have taken it upon themselves to trawl through 5915 IMDb movie listings in order to discover what are the most popular film locations in the UK. 1) London (1,008 listings): Now I’m sure it will come as no surprise when I say that the UK’s capital city is one of the most popular places to shoot a film. Not only has it been heavily featured in a number of major Hollywood blockbusters, such as 'Spider-Man: Far From Home', 'Les Misérables', as well as several 'James Bond' films, but in addition to this, London has also doubled for New York City in 'Sleepy Hollow', as well as the inside of the Death Star for 'Star Wars: Rogue One'.
2) Borehamwood (110 listings): The second most popular film location in the UK can be found in a small, sleepy town, situated within the heart of Hertfordshire. Or to be more specific about it, the famous Elstree Studios, which has been the home for a wide variety of major movies, such as 'Kick-Ass', 'The Shining', 'Indiana Jones', and 'The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy', to name but a few!
3) Dublin (85 listings): In third position is Dublin. Cold, scenic, Dublin. Otherwise known as that place where they made 'Braveheart', 'Barry Lyndon', and ‘Once’, for instance, along with the popular TV show produced by the BBC, 'The Tudors'.
4) Oxford (60 listings): Sliding into fourth spot is an English city that looks so, so English, a number of notable filmmakers have made some really, really English films there, including 'Young Sherlock Holmes', 'Tolkien', three 'Harry Potter' films, 'A Fish Called Wanda', and 'Howards End'.
5) Glasgow (57 listings): Despite coming in fifth, Glasgow is still a pretty popular place for making movies. Movies like '1917' (which was shot near the River Clyde), 'Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw' (which had sequences set in Merchant City and the Financial District), as well as the up and coming superhero movie, 'The Batman' (which has scenes in Glasgow Necropolis and Cathedral Square).
