On the 17th of November, 2021, Chronicle Chroma will be releasing a brand new book that’ll shine a spotlight on Spike Lee's vast filmography. It's a 360-page hardcover book called ‘SPIKE’, and for £40, you can pick it up and have a look at what went on behind-the-scenes in his most memorable movies, starting from his first feature, 'She’s Gotta Have It', all the way up to his latest wartime epic, 'Da 5 Bloods'.
Not only will 'SPIKE' (the book) feature material from Lee’s films, such as 'Do the Right Thing', 'Malcolm X', '25th Hour', 'Inside Man', and 'BlacKkKlansman', but it will also feature material from his documentaries, television shows, and commercials, including his legendary 'Air Jordan' commercials starring Michael Jordan.
In addition to this, Lee has also directed a number of music videos and shorts for artists such as Michael Jackson, Prince, Public Enemy, Branford Marsalis, Bruce Hornsby, Miles Davis, and Anita Baker, which will likewise be featured inside this 360-page tribute.
In a recent interview he gave to the press, Spike told a journalist: 'I was elated when Steve Crist and Chronicle Chroma approached me about doing a visual book of 'All My Joints', as it's allowed me to revisit everything I’ve created over the last 40 plus years working in the film industry'.
'It's been an honor to collaborate with Spike', said Steve Crist, who was given access to Spike Lee's archives in order to produce this picturesque publication, 'because together, we’ve been able to create the definitive visual survey of his amazing career'.
Tré Seals (the founder of Vocal Type) was hired to design this hardcover homage as well as the custom typography featured inside it. Typography based on Radio Raheem's iconic LOVE/HATE brass knuckles from the 1989 urban classic, 'Do the Right Thing'.
David Lee (Spike Lee’s brother) has been the official on-set photographer for most of Spike’s films, and you will get to see over a hundred of his photos in this bodacious book.
According to the main man himself, one of Spike Lee's favorite films is the 1937 film noir, 'Dead End', which was directed by William Wyler and starred Humphrey Bogart, Sylvia Sidney, and Joel McCrea.
Priced at £40, 'SPIKE' is a 360-page hardcover book that'll be released on the 17th of November, 2021, by Chronicle Chroma. Now for further information, please feel free to check out Chronicle's official Website, Facebook, and Twitter pages (distributed in the UK and Europe by Abrams & Chronicle).
