PHOTOGHASTS - AN AUGMENTED REALITY HAUNTED CARD GAME

In April, 2015, I had the good fortune to speak with Thom Burgess about his supernatural graphic novel, 'Malevolents', which boldly told three terrifying tales revolving around life, death, and the nature of fear (click here if you want to read more). In fact, Thom's tales were so terrifying to read, that he's now developed another hair-raising project. But this time, it's not a graphic novel, but rather, an interactive card game that uses mobile technology!





Well, following the success of Thom's most recent project, 'Photoghasts', Thom has devised a game that utilizes his Photoghasts app and a newly designed selection of captivating playing cards. Cards, I hasten to add, that aren't always what they seem.

How so? Now, to play Thom's interactive game, a series of cards are dealt to several players (up to four in total), who, one, by one, by one, take it in turns to scan their cards into the aforementioned app to 'exorcise' or 'fade' the photo displayed. But please note, each player has a limited amount of time to scan their cards, and sometimes, the camera shutter can stick and allow more ghosts to be scanned by their opponents. Worst still, a player might accidentally scan the 'wrong' card and unleash the ghost 'trapped' inside.

So how do you win? Each card is worth a pre-defined numerical value, and every time a card is scanned into the app, it's assigned to the player in question and calculated accordingly. Or in other words, this is a points-based game, where the player who accumulates the most points, ultimately wins. You also might like to know that each player can choose their own custom animation with the app in order to signify who they are in the game. The great thing is, all you need is one smart device (smartphone/tablet), a pack of Photoghasts cards (42 cards in a set), and the Photoghasts app to play-play-play (click-click-click), either on your own or with a group of friends. Play 'Photoghasts' after 9pm and you run the risk of disturbing the original photographer. Not much is known about him, apart from how he utilized dark magic to capture his original haunted photos, which allegedly, cursed him to carry on taking photos long after his death.
