From the 20th of January, 2022, to the 24th of April, 2022, The Cartoon Museum (London) will be hosting a special exhibition to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Judge Dredd® and '2000 AD'. The exhibition will explore how Judge Dredd® has evolved since his original creation (way back in 1977), and how artistic techniques have changed alongside him.
Who created Judge Dredd®? He was created by the writer, John Wagner, and the artist, Carlos Ezquerra, and he made his first appearance on the 5th of March, 1977, within the pages of '2000 AD' (issue two).
Is the Judge still in print? Yes, yes he is, but his adventures are now being published by Rebellion Developments, not Fleetway Publications, which took over from the aforementioned publishing house in 2000.
How would you describe Judge Dredd®? Well, according to official sources, Judge Joseph Dredd is a fictional law enforcement and judicial officer who lives in the dystopian futuristic city known as Mega-City One. Or in other words…
What does the Judge Dredd® exhibition consist of? Eight pieces of original Judge Dredd® artwork, drawn by different illustrators from different eras. There's also a fun, video presentation that features the artist, Tom Foster, drawing a few pages for '2000 AD', starting from the early design stages all the way to the final, colored, piece.
