Limited Edition Wonder Woman Statue
Size of the statue: 22cm in height and includes a base measuring 21.5cm x 17cm
Sculpted by: Ghim Ong
The design of the statue is based on: The cover for Wonder Woman #1 (Volume 2), which was released by DC Comics in 1987 and illustrated by George PΓ©rez.
Trivia: In the mid-1980s, DC Comics decided to reinvigorate their entire line-up by staging a company-wide crossover event, entitled, Crisis on Infinite Earths, which allowed them to kill off some of their characters and then bring them back in a new and fresh way. One of these characters was none other than the Princess of Themyscira, Wonder Woman, who successfully made her reappearance in the aforementioned issue π.
Limited Edition Joker Statue
Size of the statue: 22cm in height and includes a base measuring 17.5cm x 20cm
Sculpted by: Mufizal Mokhtar
The design of the statue is based on: The cover for Batman #251 (Volume 1), which was released by DC Comics in 1973 and illustrated by Neal Adams.
Trivia: The Joker made his comic book debut in Batman #1 (see Batman statue below π), and originally was meant to die at the end of it because the writer, Bill Finger, didn't want him to become a recurring character and make Batman appear inept. However, Bill's decision was quickly overturned by the then-editor of the Batman comic book, Whitney Ellsworth, who made sure that the Joker was still alive so he could come back and kill again.
Limited Edition Superman Statue
Size of the statue: 28.5cm in height and includes a base measuring 20cm x 19cm
Sculpted by: Mufizal Mokhtar
The design of the statue is based on: The cover for Action Comics #1 (Volume 1), which was released by DC Comics in 1938 and illustrated by both Joe Shuster and Jack Adler.
Trivia: When it was originally released in 1938, Action Comics #1, which marks Superman's comic book debut, cost only 10¢. But in 2021, a copy was sold at auction for $3.25 million, and this makes it one of the most expensive comic books sold in the world. Although, that may change in the foreseeable future due to the popularity of some of Superman's comic book colleagues.
Limited Edition Batman Statue
Size of the statue: 22cm in height and includes a base measuring 17cm x 19cm
Sculpted by: Mufizal Mokhtar
The design of the statue is based on: The cover for Batman #1 (Volume 1), which was released by DC Comics in 1940 and illustrated by both Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson.
Trivia: Not only was this issue the first time the Joker appeared in a comic book (scroll up to see the Joker statue π), but it was also the first time Catwoman appeared in one too. Although, in her case, she was called the Cat, not Catwoman, and she didn't wear her usual cat-like attire, but rather, a disguise so she'd resemble an old lady.
Royal Selangor has also manufactured several other collectibles based on characters, vehicles, and objects originally created by DC Comics, such as a Catwoman figurine, a replica of the classic Batmobile, and a Batman Shogun statue (see picture provided for a sample of their wares π), along with a series of collectibles from the following franchises: Harry Potter, Star Wars, Disney Music Carousels, and The Lord of the Rings, to name but a few.
