In a couple of months, my mate, Manuel Alventosa, will be releasing a new film he's directed that's set in my parents' homeland of Cyprus. The film's called, 'No Witches Around', and it stars a number of up-and-coming actors, including my own cousin, Andros Zacharia. So, to get everyone in the mood, here's a quick Q and A with the main man himself, Manuel.
1) Name three words that best describe who you are. I'd say, antagonistic, mythical, and creature.
2) What inspired you to make the film, 'No Witches Around'? One of my main motivations was to expose and present archetypes that have been buried by specific powers throughout the years, like witches, for instance.
3) In your own words, how would you describe this story? Now, without giving too much away, let me just say that the story revolves around an ordinary citizen who feels very disorientated with his life. So much so, in fact, that he can't seem to find a way to break free from his problems. Not until a few mysterious characters suddenly appear and change his destiny forever.
4) What song would you say best represents this film? To answer this question, I'd like to select, 'She's Not There' by The Zombies.
5) If you could get a celebrity – either living or dead – to promote your wares, who would you choose, and why would you want to choose this particular person? I'd choose the director, Anna Biller, because she's a very inspirational artist who creates films that share similar sensibilities to my own. Well, I've interviewed her in the past, so with a little luck, she might be willing to help me promote, 'No Witches Around'.
6) What have you learned about yourself through this endeavor? In retrospect, I've learned how to simplify many of the problems I've encountered on the set, as well as how to allow other areas to have more creative freedoms.
And on that note, I would like to thank Manuel for telling us about his new film, 'No Witches Around', before encouraging you to check out his Website, Instagram, and Spotify pages. Otherwise, stay tuned to find out more news about Manuel's new movie.
