Last month, I wrote an article that explained what I thought about the latest first-person shooter game released by Activision. Namely, 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II'. But if you missed it, don't worry, because you can check out my initial assessment by clicking here. Otherwise, you can just dive into the following article that picks up from where my previous one left off. Please enjoy.
Multiplayer Mode
The Gunplay: Most of the guns featured in 'Modern Warfare II' are truly amazing to handle as they behave like their real-life counterparts and are highly detailed by design. My own personal favorite is the M4A1, because, from my experience, it looks exactly how it should look and shoots exactly how it should shoot. All that, plus it's also really fun to use, especially when playing in this mode.
The Maps: I'm sorry to say that the maps in the multiplayer version of 'Modern Warfare II' are bad, really bad, as they're so huge in scope, after a while, players might find it a bit tedious to run from one area to the next, only to then die and end up back where they started. Heck, they're so bad, that I can barely tolerate three, such as the map depicting the Mexican city, Mercado Las Almas, for instance, which consists of a series of tunnels, alleys, and houses for players to run through in order to fight their opponents. Having said that, though, the appearance of each map looks so realistic I sometimes forget that they're not real-life environments.
Customization
For those of you who don't know, the Gunsmith is where you go to customize your Loadout by switching out attachments, perks, and equipment. But the problem is, this section is so badly designed it's almost impossible to figure out how to unlock certain weapons, attachments, and camouflage patterns for your arsenal. I will admit, though, that the camouflage patterns and attachments look really good, and I have considered collecting them all.
Special Ops Mode
The Missions: As of this writing, 'Modern Warfare II' offers players three special operations missions, where they can secure important intel, extract from the zone, or take down specific targets. But when you load up one of these missions, either solo or with a friend, and are given an objective to accomplish, you're then presented with an extremely boring environment with hardly any enemies to kill. In fact, these missions are so mundane, there's no point playing them as they're not much fun.
The Rewards: If truth be told, I can't recommend Special Ops to anyone because completing these missions won't give them any sense of major accomplishment. Admittedly, there are a couple of operators and skins to unlock, but in my opinion, they're not worth collecting as they don't look all that good. Overall, the entire thing seems like an afterthought, and I would be very surprised if they continue to support this mode for much longer.
Conclusion
On the whole, I'd say 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II' is one of the greatest first-person shooter games of all time. The graphics are some of the best I've ever seen, the guns feel absolutely incredible to shoot, and aside from a few faults, the overall design is just amazing. It's just a damn shame that this game is tarnished by all of these unnecessary bugs, glitches, and crashes, which do nothing, except annoy each player. Having said that, though, I still want to enjoy this game, and I'm willing to stick with it, just as long as they update and fix all of these issues as well as release new content.
