A NEW SERIES OF VARIANT COVERS BY ALEX ROSS THAT SHOWCASE MARVEL'S GREATEST VILLAINS

Last week, I published an article showcasing a selection of images that depict some of the most popular superheroes from the Marvel Universe (click here to check that out). Each image was illustrated by the multi-award-winning artist, Alex Ross, who initially drew them for a mural that's located in Marvel's New York offices. Since then, he's illustrated more characters associated with Marvel. But this time, for a new series of variant covers featuring some of their villains. Thirteen of these covers can be seen below, along with a video starring Alex Ross talking about his work.

Captain America: Symbol of Truth #11: Red Skull was created in 1941 by France Herron, Jack Kirby, and Joe Simon

X-Men #20: Dark Phoenix was created in 1963 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby

Fantastic Four #5: Super-Skrull was created in 1963 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby

Avengers Forever #15: Kang was created in 1963/4 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby

Hallow's Eve #1: Green Goblin was created in 1964 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko

Hulk #13: Leader was created in 1964 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #4: Scorpion was created in 1964/5 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko

Captain Marvel #47: Juggernaut was created in 1965 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby

Avengers #66: Ultron was created in 1968 by Roy Thomas and John Buscema

Scarlet Witch #3: Mephisto was created in 1968 by Stan Lee and John Buscema

Rogue & Gambit #1: Mystique was created in 1978 by Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum

Mary Jane & Black Cat #4: Black Cat was created in 1979 by Marv Wolfman, Keith Pollard, and Dave Cockrum

Wolverine #31: White Queen was created in 1980 by Chris Claremont and John Byrne

Some of the villains Alex has illustrated have been predominantly featured on a series of variant comic book covers published by Marvel in March 2023. The name and issue number for thirteen of these comics can be seen above.
