Warner Bros. and DC Films first announced that they were planning to develop a Flash solo movie way back in October, 2014, saying that they were going to base it on the 2011 'Flashpoint' saga created by the writer, Geoff Johns. But since then, this production has experienced so many setbacks and delays, a lot of the fans want to know its current status. So, to clear things up a bit, I thought it would be a good idea to unpack what we know so far.
When will 'The Flash' solo movie be released? The original release date for the movie was supposed to be March, 2018, but because of one thing or another, it was pushed back to June, July, and then November, 2022, before finally landing on its current release date, June 16, 2023.
Will Ezra Miller continue to play the Scarlet Speedster? So far, Ezra has played Barry Allen's alter ego, the Flash, in numerous films associated with the DCEU, including 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice', the 'Suicide Squad', and the 'Justice League'. Heck, his version of the character has even appeared in The CW's TV show, 'The Flash'. So, from the looks of it, despite facing several legal problems, Ezra will still be playing the Flash in the aforementioned solo movie. In fact, he will be playing two versions of the same character from different timelines, alongside Ian Loh, who will be playing a much younger version.
Who else will appear in 'The Flash' solo movie? Well, aside from Batman (Ben Affleck), who's expected to have only a minor role in the movie, fans will also see a number of other familiar faces. This includes Barry's love interest, Iris West (Kiersey Clemons), who briefly appeared in Zack Snyder's version of the 2017 film, 'Justice League', two of Superman's villains, General Zod and Faora-UI (Michael Shannon and Antje Traue respectively), who fought Clark Kent's alter ego in the 2013 film, 'Man of Steel', and finally, two heroes from the following trailer, which dropped at the Super Bowl.
So what will the movie be all about? As I said before, it's supposed to be based on the 'Flashpoint' miniseries published by DC Comics and written by Geoff Johns in 2011. In this adventure, the Flash decides to travel back in time to prevent the murder of his mother, Nora Allen, who was allegedly killed by his father, Henry Allen. But in doing so, he accidentally changes the timeline and the world he once knew.
How so? Well, when Barry saves his mother's life, he suddenly wakes up in a strange new world with none of his powers and some type of memory loss. So, to rectify this situation, he eventually enlists the help of a certain Caped Crusader, even though the world around him is now at war… a war between Atlantis and Themyscira.
Who's directing 'The Flash' solo movie? Andy Muschietti, who's predominantly known as a horror director because he previously directed the horror films 'It', 'It Chapter Two', and 'Mama'.
Any chance of a sequel? According to the newly appointed co-chairman and CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn, 'The Flash' will serve as the last movie set in the current DCEU, and in many ways, will act as a soft reboot for whatever happens next. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that the movie will get a sequel.
So there you have it, folks. What we know about 'The Flash' solo movie so far. But if you have anything more to add, then please feel free to leave your thoughts in the comment section below. Many thanks.
