Cuba - John Lennon Statue
Havana, Cuba
(John Lennon Statue)

In the year 2000, the former president of Cuba, Fidel Castro, unveiled a shiny new bronze statue of John Lennon sitting on a bench in the then-new John Lennon Park. After his unveiling, he spoke to those in attendance about his kinship to the one-time Beatle by saying to them, 'I share his dreams completely. I too am a dreamer who has seen his dreams turn into reality'. The strange thing about this, however, is that in the 1960s and 1970s, Castro banned everyone living in Cuba from playing music by the Beatles as he considered their songs, 'ideological diversionism'.
