Last week, I published an article about four comic books starring Superman and a well-known celebrity. But if you missed it, don't worry, because you can check out the article by clicking here. Otherwise, you can just go with the flow and dive into the next selection of comic books starring Superman and a well-known celebrity. Please enjoy.
Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #9 (Volume 1)
Cover date: May 1959 / Written by: Robert Bernstein / Illustrated by: Dick Sprang / Name of the story: Superman's Mystery Song!
Celebrity starring in the comic book: The American singer, actor, and composer, Pat Boone, who rose to fame in the 1950s and 1960s for singing such songs as 'Ain't That a Shame', 'Don't Forbid Me', and 'Love Letters in the Sand' / Summary of the story: When Clark Kent was asked to interview Pat Boone for the 'Daily Planet' newspaper, he didn't know that his alter ego, Superman, would have to save him from a swarm of his fans, and then in his mortal guise, write a song for him afterwards. A song, I hasten to add, that Pat really likes, and despite containing lyrics that may potentially reveal Clark's secret identity, Pat performs it at several venues with Lois Lane by his side, without knowing the song's true meaning. Oops!
Superman #155 (Volume 1)
Cover date: August 1962 / Written by: Jerry Siegel / Illustrated by: Curt Swan / Name of the story: The Downfall of Superman!
Celebrity starring in the comic book: The Italian-Argentinian professional wrestler, Antonino Rocca, who was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 1995 / Summary of the story: A friendly wrestling match between Superman and Antonino Rocca suddenly turns into a very strange situation when a group of gangsters and some pretty powerful people abruptly enter the fray. Who wins? Who loses? The answers may surprise you.
Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #45 (Volume 1)
Cover date: November 1963 / Written by: Jerry Siegel / Illustrated by: Curt Swan / Name of the story: The 'Superman-Lois' Hit Record!
Celebrity starring in the comic book: The American comedian, musician, writer, actor, and television and radio personality, Steve Allen, who's best remembered as the first host for the popular American talk show, 'The Tonight Show' / Summary of the story: Upon hearing a novelty song about her and Superman, a derogatory novelty song, Lois Lane goes to visit one of the song's composers in order to stop him from releasing it. However, the composer ignores her request, and eventually, his song is released and becomes so popular that Lois's next plan of attack involves her airing her views on 'The Tonight Show' with Steve Allen.
Action Comics #345 (Volume 1)
Cover date: January 1967 / Written by: Leo Dorfman / Illustrated by: Al Plastino / Name of the story: The Day Candid Camera Unmasked Clark Kent's Identity!
Celebrity starring in the comic book: The American writer, director, and television producer and personality, Allen Funt, who's generally known as the creator and host of the American TV show, 'Candid Camera' / Summary of the story: Allen Funt and his team on the popular TV show, 'Candid Camera', one day set their sights on the 'Daily Planet' newspaper with the intent of playing a few televised pranks on some of their staff, including the editor-in-chief, Perry White, and one of their reporters, Clark Kent. But in doing so, Clark is accidentally caught changing into his Superman costume in a rigged phone booth, and the rest, as they say, is history... TV history.
So, there you have it, folks, four well-known celebrities who've appeared in a comic book with Superman. Out of curiosity, have you read any of the comics listed? And if you haven't, will you want to now? Either way, please feel free to leave your thoughts in the comment section below. Or if you prefer, let us know of any other famous person who's shared a story with a comic book character.
