FOUR FILM LOCATIONS FEATURED IN FORREST GUMP

In 1994, Paramount Pictures released a fantastic film called 'Forrest Gump', which revolves around the life and times of a simple man and the people he loves. It was directed by the filmmaker, Robert Zemeckis, and stars Tom Hanks (who plays the simple man), Sally Field (as his mother), Gary Sinise (his friend), and Robin Wright (his love interest). Chippewa Square, Savannah, Georgia, USA
(Bus Stop Bench)

When the film begins, the titular character, Forrest Gump (as played by Tom Hanks), is seen sitting on a bus stop bench, talking to whoever sits next to him about his life. Currently, this bench resides in the Savannah History Museum (located at 303 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Savannah), although individuals can still visit the area where it was placed during filming (address displayed above).

While he's talking about his life, we learn that Forrest and his mother, Mrs. Gump (as played by Sally Field), live in a boarding house that's situated in the fictitious town of Greenbow, Alabama. This house was specifically built for the film and it was torn down soon after production. The area surrounding it still exists, though, and you can see some of it in the scenes where a young Forrest (as played by Michael Conner Humphreys) is being chased through the woods by a bunch of bullies.

At one point in the film, Forrest joins the U.S. Army and makes a couple of friends while serving in the Vietnam War, friends such as Lieutenant Dan Taylor and Bubba Blue (as played by Gary Sinise and Mykelti Williamson respectively). A number of scenes set in Vietnam weren't filmed in Vietnam, but rather, at a 5,000-acre secluded semitropical barrier island that's situated in between two other islands, Harbor Island and Fripp Island. Since 1935, it has been classified as a state park and is the most-visited state park facility in South Carolina.

(Forrest Finishes His Run)

Near the end of the film, Forrest decides to spend a few years running through the streets of America. Some of the places he passes during his travels include the Yacht Harbor in Santa Monica, Marshall Point Lighthouse in Maine, the golden wheatfields in Montana, Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina, Twin Arrows Trading Post in Arizona, as well as Monument Valley, also in Arizona, which is where he finally heads home.
