In May, 1939, Batman made his comic book debut within the pages of the twenty-seventh issue of 'Detective Comics'. The issue sports an unforgettable cover illustrated by the artist, Bob Kane, which depicts Batman swinging through the air with a criminal in one of his arms, while nearby, two of the criminal's cohorts skulk on an adjacent rooftop. In fact, the aforementioned cover has become so unforgettable, that since its release, a number of other artists have drawn similar covers in order to duplicate its veracity.
